UKIP CHOOSES CANDIDATE TO FIGHT HERTS NORTH EAST SEAT
The UK Independence Party has chosen David Hitchman as its Prospective Parliamentary Candidate to fight the Hertfordshire North East constituency in the next General Election, widely expected to be held in May of this year.
Mr Hitchman, aged 42, is a sales manager with BT. He lives in Buntingford with his wife Anne and two children.
At a well-attended selection meeting in the Town Council chamber at Buntingford, party members chose David ahead of other shortlisted candidates from the local area. Mr Hitchman told the meeting: “Recently I have found myself looking at Britain and asking, is this still the kind of country that I want my children to grow up in? And the answer is increasingly no – we are becoming dominated by red tape, petty rules and bureaucracy, most of which is due to the EU. Britain must withdraw if we are to regain our independence. We can maintain our trading relationships and cultural links with all of our European neighbours perfectly well without being part of the massive superstate which some of the other EU states are clearly aiming for. UKIP is the only major party to offer voters this choice.”
The Herts N E constituency includes Letchworth, Baldock, Royston, Buntingford, Watton-at-Stone and Tewin. UKIP has a growing membership in the area. The election is likely to be called shortly.
